In many cases that's exactly what it is: truancy.

When my boys were in elementary school, their friend (who was in public school) had a teacher that his mom had had in that grade. He was failing all the written stuff, so mom wrote a paper for him. She failed too. Homeschooling increased by 700% in 2020 - Page 2 773625082 Mom was so mad at that teacher that she pulled her kid out of school to home school him. That was truancy.

Both my kids went through the public school system in New Zealand , My daughter graduated uni this week with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), and my son has another year to go on his computer systems degree, But the Doris and I put a lot into these guys at home

With public schools it really depends on quite a few factors as to whether they are good or not.  My oldest son went to DoD schools overseas through 4th grade.  Those schools are generally quite good and they start teaching them a foreign language in Kindergarten.  My son was in good public schools all the way through.  He graduated with honors and did well in college.

My twins are 9 years younger than my oldest child.  In those 9 years things changed and deteriorated.  Teachers were given a list of power words to use in parent teacher conferences that would make the parent believe the teacher was really brainy and scare them out of asking questions for fear the teacher would find out how stupid they are.   I asked a few questions that took them out of the conversation they wanted to have............and found out these teachers were dummies and were using some really bad teaching techniques.  So I pulled my boys out and taught at the private school they attended and knew (and still know) their 4th and 5th grade teachers who are two of the best teachers I have ever known.

Parents should always figure out what's going on in their kids' schools and guess what...............even if a kid has to go to a crappy school, the parents can provide ways for that kid to learn anyway.  Of course.  Not all people are equipped to be parents..... What a Face

Unions ruin everything they touch. Teachers' unions are no exception.
