Car thief gets crushed to death while stealing vehicle’s catalytic converter

VANCOUVER, WA — A gruesome discovery was made at an auto repair shop’s parking lot last week. Someone noticed a man pinned underneath a vehicle that had been jacked up, but apparently fell and had crushed the victim a few hours earlier.

The 29-year-old victim was identified as Kent Raymond Williams by KOIN 6. Williams is suspected of trying to steal the catalytic converter of a silver Mercedes that he was underneath when it fell and crushed him.

According to a CBS News report, it can take a thief just a minute to steal a catalytic converter.

The Vancouver Police Department was dispatched at 7:41 a.m. and the fire department and ambulance responded at 7:44 a.m. to the Four Seasons Auto Repair and Tire Center, according to a report. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Not the first time this has happened and probably not the last.

Yes. It's very dangerous because the catalytic converter on expensive cars -- being the good ones worth hundreds of dollars -- is located underneath about in the middle toward the front. So unless you're very skilled at using a power saw and very quick, you're going to be under the car for awhile -- a few minutes anyway, totally vulnerable to being squished like a watermelon, but slowly so that your screams of agony will last for several tortured seconds while the driver tries to figure out what's wrong with the transmission LOL. It will end with a loud crack-crunch. Your friend (this operation usually has an assistant to record the event with his iphone and also help pull you out from under the car, assuming there's something left of you that isn't stuck to the pavement.

Gives me the creeps.
