That's an excellent reason to use different names when you post and otherwise disguise yourself, it seems to me.

They gather numbers. They do it at all boards, since forever.
It's SOP for all forums. Some forums have dozens of bots on at all times.

They can only evaluate what they can see on the open board.

Like I explained, most of it is about ad dollars( THEIR AD DOLLARS) and number of clicks on individual threads where they direct the higher paying advertisements to the more popular items.

It's all piss in the wind to me because I don't see the ads.
But some folks do.

@Daily Bread likes the hot Asian and Russian dating site ads. Lol.

It's also a good thing because it elevates the forum SEO numbers at goo girl, Bing, Yahoo, etc. And moves he forum up to the top of the search page enabling folks to find us easier.

It's a function of each individual poster that brings the bots here, not the forum itself.

If you use Google to log in, the bot will follow you here. Like wise for most search engines, unless you have strict mode enabled on your cookie setting which helps sometimes.

Many times websites won't respond properly on strict mod or you may have to keep logging in if you leave the tab and try to return.

Google, Bing,  Qwant, search engines visit everyday as bots. Many times a day.
Other bots are listed as guest,  Microsoft is the biggest info gatherer here.

If you use any search engine(with the exception of DDG) and type in a name the bot will search the inquiry.

Google provides the ads here(Pretty sure) , so they check their ad numbers regularly.

I don't see any ads, myself.

It's advantageous to have  bots listed as such.
Formats like vbulletin(TPF/ tPF/ SI)  just list the bots as guest without any distinction.
