outrage from everyone else....Phoenix gives no explanation..why should he and frankly he made a good decision.

Just thinking. You know...we have heard of strange things on set or later on with stars who were in occult/demonic films. I wonder if it is the same with actors who threw their souls so to speak into big ole honking trans/homo movies. Did they feel like they paid some kind of karmic price for their role in that film? WELL GOOD LUCK finding anything about that, and i'm sure there was info about it perhaps 10 years ago but NOT NOW. Try looking up anything that could be in anyway negative of such things and i guarantee you won't find it.

You just can't pull out of something unless you get into it first. So did he willingly sign on to the project or was he forced into it?

It appears he signed up or his agent signed him up.. Maybe based on societal climate he thought better or MAYBE it didn't pay enough.. He wouldn't say, it makes pro homo groups angry and Phoenix doesn't care if they sue him.
