Re: Idalia's Approach
as an aside, i dont think everyone here is aware of what accures during a flood situation. IF you didnt have a 4" ball cock valve installed on your sewer line and kept operational, your sewer lines pressure backed up and litteraly blew ( erupted ) the toilets off their " seats " ( the bolts that hold down the ' pot ' to the floor ) IF YOU ARE LUCKY! otherwise all toilets slowly over fill off your sewer line and then your plumbing under every sink explodes and the shit come out of the 1 1/2 " pipe instead. not a pretty sight either way. IF you dont have the ballcock installed, prior to a flooding even, on your lowest toilet, remove the seat bolts.

Re: Idalia's Approach
I was just checking some damage out. Perry sustained a lot of wind damage. Looks pretty bad.
The beach communities were leveled by surge surge and high winds.
Lots of storm surge damage, south to cedar key.

It's a good thing it was moving at a forward speed of 18-20mph. If it was moving slowly or took a more northerly track and had more time over open water, the storm would have completed its eye wall replacement cycle and probably would have strengthened at least 5 more mph in wind speed, and came ashore as a Cat 4.

Re: Idalia's Approach
ive posted about this before. before DeSoto and LaSalle showed up, locals had erected massive log/earth and seashell berms along the gulf coast. the shell berms were 100' high. these were levelled by white for road base , leaving only 5' sandy dunes. where no seawall was built, it was meant to be a " wash alley " there. Keaton Beach / Dekle beach was one such designated place. a sand spit. formed by tidal and runoff action. kinda like a swamp at low tide and a lake at hightide. prayers and concerns are swell, but some disasters were alinged with the heavens.

Still a healthy Cat 2 at the Florida/Georgia State line.

yeah. like akin to instead of seeing small pebbles at ocean side, you see nothing but tidal sand.HawkTheSlayer wrote:It's a good thing it was moving at a forward speed of 18-20mph. More like a lot of white man, tee-pee debris.
It's not just at the coast. It's tearing up everything well inland too.
Not too many trees on the coast and palms will bend.
Lots of downed trees inland.
I'm going to see if I can fi d out how many are without power at the moment. Prolly close to a million households.

FEMA is gonna have a field day on this one. it wont stay in the press as long as Coral Gables did, due to less population density coverage wise, but this is just another Allison / Harvey / Katrina event. oceanside picturesc momments are wonderfull mommentos. reality is a huge " moon slap "
