Tractor Lighting
I'm looking at lights for my tractor so I can mow at night. My land is covered with bugs. If I have bright LED lights, I'm afraid they will attract so many bugs that I can't use the lights. Would yellow LEDs attract less bugs? I know green or blue LEDs don't hardly attract bugs, but I want a usable light that travels. Any advice?

Lord have mercy! Just grind the bugs up with the cutter during the day when they are sleeping !
Boy , I ground some up today! 7 acres of cut . About 4 on the riding mower.
The Egrets ate every bug disturbed, both alive and wounded in the field and in the yard.

Get you some egrets.
You start cutting, they come. By the dozen , by the hundred.
In the old days , I had hundreds following and side stepping the cutter !
Some, were so bold as to ride on the back of the cutter. And pick the bugs square ass off the back of the cutter! I love egrets!
In over 50 years of cutting I've never run over one. I've tried my best!

Re: Tractor Lighting
I work 60 hours/week and don't always have daylight time to mow. Maybe I'll save it for weekends if I have one. I also have lots of bumble bees. I don't mind the grasshoppers. The horse flies and bees are pretty thick. I even saw a brown recluse and a stink bug landed on my neck. I guess it's just the city boy in me, but I saw bugs I'd never seen before.
Also, it's hot in the day.

Re: Tractor Lighting
Can you put the lights far from your face?
If you have a loader bucket on the front, I'd put them on the arms. Or perhaps on the front, down low near the axle. Or, conversely, have a folding set of arms holding the lights higher up, so the bugs circle far above your head.
I would try yellow, but you're right about usable light. It's hard to work in yellow, blue or green light. It will be harder with LEDs that color, because there's virtually NO spillover of other colors on the spectrum. For example, if you put an amber LED auto bulb in a housing with a red reflector...seriously, you can barely make out the light. Because all there is emitted, is yellow-amber, and the red outer lens blocks it.
You could check some wrecking yards - one close by us here, removes and sells light bars in good condition from junked cars. They have a lot of them - apparently it's something that last-owners, who are marginal in maintenance and intellect, buy for their beaters, before that final mechanical breakdown.
But if you find yellow works, you can then buy better lights and go at it.
Or, you could just get a netting jacket - I have one. Covers your whole head and torso.
