Is dogs haveing teeth issues a new issue

I grew up with dogs from the 50's to 80's Had several breeds. Some lived until their late teens. Not one ever had teeth issues. Recently I have met two people whose dogs have had rotten teeth removed. I'm wondering if this is a new phenomenon, or have I just been fortunate. My vet even asks if I want him to clean her teeth. The only time she has bad breath is when she discovers an over ripe iguana. (My G.F. has the same issue).
Any comments are welcome. except those targeting the G.F.

We fed them from the table then.... and they rarely got shots. That's your problem right there. Now Their food costs us an arm and a leg and it is inlikely it does them any good. And the shots rabies etc....only shorten their already short lives.

Thanks, she only gets rabies vax. Seldom table scraps. Even back then scraps were a treat. Yes, I'm thinking it dog food related. I sure could use @sprintcyclist to debunk a possible conspiracy theory

Do you realize what it costs to take your pet to the vet anymore.....and they don't know anything really. I mean most of the time they ignored your concerns about symptoms you see until it is too late. Happened with me more than once. They're near as bad as medical doctors. and it's easier to bury their mistakes with pets. They can't speak.

I used to laugh at people when applying for positions....their question....what is your philosophy of history. It might be a good idea to start asking your vet or your medical doctor....'what is your philosophy of your role in veterinary medicine' Could prove to be enlightening.

I would do that if I had an alternative. I'm certain she would be Epsteined as retribution.

I know that if you maintain your pet's dental hygiene, it will extend their lifespan. Of course, that's very desirable.
Some fatal diseases enter the body through the mouth.

There is an additive that you put in their water that will clean their teeth. You get it otc at the pet store. Arwen's teeth were so white, they looked like puppy teeth.
