It never ceases to amaze me.....
The indoctrination...the normalization...the spending habits of society
simply because of a date on the calendar...
Quick...spend your money muppets....theres a date on the calendar which compels
you to conform and spend billions of dollars on chocolate easter eggs...
Christmas and Easter...the most commercialized dates on the calendar we know of.....
Meanwhile...I went shopping for groceries this morning and noticed that tomatoes
had gone up everywhere from about $4.50 a kilo to almost $9.....doubled....
Needless to say I didnt buy any....
I suppose many in Oz will travel thousands of kilometres over easter to visit others...
Just because of a date on the calendar...
Brainwashed into normalization....

Well...with no kids, and having lived alone for over 30 years...these are just dates on a calendar.
We know that Jesus of Nazareth was born close to high summer. Why? Because the shepherds were tending their flocks, out in the open. That would not have happened in even a mild Palestinian winter.
We are uncertain of the actual date of the execution of Jesus except that we know it happened during the Israeli festival of Passover. Which is set by the first lunar cycle after the Spring Equinox.
I spend no money at either. When working on the railroad, I was annoyed that I had to work those days - not because the day was special, but because my job involved an overnight stay at the other end, and on holidays, there would be no food available - grocery stores and restaurants closed. I would have to pack nearly three days worth of food.
I'm not paying any attention, except to know that many stores will be closed. Traffic was heavy here today - plenty of government employees, and they all wanted to get out of town and travel somewhere. They can afford to - the rest of us, not.
BUT. The local warehouse-style mega-grocer, apparently found a disappointing take on Easter Hams this year. I guess that figures, as our government employees, and that's a majority of the populace...that and California relocators - they're Woke, and they have no use for Christianity or Easter.
So the pre-cooked half-hams were in the mark-down cooler, yesterday - $1.50 a pound. With meat on the verge of being outlawed, I had to buy one.
It's 25 pounds. That's gonna be a lot of ham sandwiches and ham-and-cheese omelettes.

Regardless of a date on a calendar I imagine most people take their 4 paid days off to either catch up with family whom they don't get to see often or to just have a holiday with the kids that they otherwise can't usually enjoy.

Re: Spend your money peasants...
I was raised a Catholic. Even as a small child, I found no dichotomy between enjoying and Easter Egg Hunt and some sweets from the Easter Bunny, and sincerely celebrating Christ rising from the dead; once, and for all proving God's love for humanity, by showing us a way to salvation.
Although I no longer follow the Catholic religion, it's still all good with me.
Did my mom, and, subsequently, me, take advantage of the clothing sales? Only if our kids were in need.
I'd call us "stupid" if we didn't.
