We all go through stages.

But, having toured the world in the Navy, and having had beers in Asia, Australia and even the UAE (that takes doing!) I developed a taste for stronger beer with more personality. When I lived/worked near Niagara Falls, I'd actually go across the Peace Bridge into Canada to buy Canadian-market beer in the Duty-Free store. A trip over just to the Duty-Free shop was totally permissible; and you could buy there 24/7, which you could not do in New Yark.

So I'd buy Carling or Molson or occasionally some imported beer, a little more expensive...and head back home. Have my beer when I got there at 0500 (I often got off work at funny hours) or whenever.

Now, I can't have beer, because of the sugar. But given the swill sold in the States, that's not a great loss.

Many Aussie beers are awful.
Coopers Sparkling Ale in a tallie is a good beer.
