International Genetics Convention underway.
Forget designer babies. Here’s how CRISPR is really changing lives. The gene-editing tool is being tested in people, and the first treatment could be approved this year.
Never mind Jiankui, the Chinese scientist who created gene-edited babies. Instead, when you think about gene editing you should think of Victoria Gray, the African-American woman who says she’s been cured of her sickle-cell disease symptoms.
This week in London, scientists are gathering for the Third International Summit on Human Genome Editing. It’s gene editing’s big event, where researchers get to awe the audience with their new ability to modify DNA—and ethicists get to worry about what it all means.

One of the biggest revelations you can have about chinese commies is that they have no reservations about destroying you if they deem you to be in the way of what they want to do. Morals have no place in their judgement. Chi-coms are not moral people, as a rule, so you might as well check your ethics in at the door. They are the villainy in James Bond flicks.
I say, shut it all down. Whatever gains are to be made in treating rare diseases like sickle-cell anemia and so forth, they are nothing compared against the hellacious tonnage of issues chi-coms will usher in at the invitation of US and western, always most beneficent scientists.
Just shut it all down. In time, sickle-cell anema will correct itself.
Right? Yes.
Wait ... no, that's wrong. Here's what you do: You foster and play in genetics as if you're smarter than the sum total of all concerns and problems that need solved but get stuck in serious crises or unwinnable arguments. For what it's worth, you are smarter -- maybe much smarter -- you know you are. As you might be able to understand but won't care, that doesn't matter. In any event, you're still wrong. If that doesn't bother you, you are made of space alien blood, and God help you when no one else will.

dont worry too much about it Lummy. if you add up all the huge earthquakes and volcanos going poof, the next areas set to rupture are china, peru-bolivia, missouri-tennessee-kentucky and new zealand. there have been large areas that have built up huge pressure points that need released, and soon, before the 9.5 earthquakes we are expecting turn into 12.5 ones. as you just saw, Antioch just got wiped out. next on Gods venue...............

This is fascinating stuff, and I pray man can resist any possible urge to abuse what could be a magnificent cure for so many diseases.
From the OP article:
SO much good can come of this. Please, let us no dismiss it out of hand, simply because it's open to abuse. After all, the same was said of electricity, and where would we be w/o that today?
From the OP article:
~snip~Treatments that attempt to break genes include one designed to try to zap HIV. Another /in is the errant protein in sickle-cell, booting up another copy solves the problem.
These scientists are looking at ways to cure cancer, sickle-cell anemia, another rare disease called beta-thalassemia, the vision problems that albinos face...Liu’s lab is working on next-generation gene-editing approaches. These tools also employ the CRISPR protein, but it’s engineered not to cut the DNA helix, but instead to deftly swap individual genetic letters or make larger edits. These are known as “base editors.”
According to LluĂs Montoliu, a gene scientist at Spain’s National Center for Biotechnology, these new versions of CRISPR have “lower risk and better performance,” although delivering them “to the right target cell in the body” remains difficult.

You need to be a little careful judging all Chinese by the acts of their Gov, If we were to judge all Americans by what Biden administration is doing, the world would think you are a bunch of wankers ?
