I'm not greedy. I'll settle for $10,000 since this is my 10,000 post. Lol Treasure Hunting! - Page 2 4129005160

Nickels? How did you get them since they aren't magnetic?

The metal detector can still see it.

Any kind of metal. Aluminum too. That's not magnetic either.
Lead too.

I used to follow a few treasure hunters on youtube. The Thames is a very productive river going back to Roman times, and the shallow waters around Manhattan produce some neat stuff. Once in a long while someone unearths a museum quality item. It's always interesting.

I think the banks of the Mississippi River might be productive.

One guy in the mid-West looks for artifacts relating to American history, military mostly. He gets some interesting results. Check it out on youtube.

First thing I found was that ax head. Then the bullets. Boy! Did I have to search for those things.  I had to move over a bit because there were too many bullets.
Found some junk wire , a cotter key , scrap iron , a long pin not too old,  and a washer.

As I was leaving , I found a nickel. I searched around and found 2 more. 1991, 1989, 1963.
The 63 was I better shape than the newer nickels.

That ax head may be a biggie - they never found the one Lizzie Borden used .
I've had a metal detector for years and never got s chance to use it . The treasure hunting laws and permits were stopping me . I think the last time I attempted to use it was in Maryland 10-15 years ago and a cop noticed it in my trunk when I went fishing - he told me it better stay in the trunk because he could arrest me if I attempted to use it in the state . I've been thinking about getting a NY permit ( not hard to get ,just annoying ) and do my beach area for coinage , rings and stuff but I don't even have time to fish anymore .

Lord, I don't think we need a permit in public places. Now I'll have to go look. Lol.

Looks like you need a permit in state and federal parks. And you have to fork over anything you find to government.

Historical sites like light houses(lol. Not too many here) and Civil War sites(plenty of those) are no-no and no dig or removal.

I had a top of the line detector years ago but it died.

I bought this cheap one from Harbor Freight for $69. It works just as good as expensive ones and has sensitivy and discriminate( look for a specific metal) controls.
And the batteries sure last a long time.
The
I think I'll go play around a bit but it's already too hot. 82 and not even noon.

I was looking for some property markers from 1975 and found them all.
At one I found this.
Pretty sure it's a plumb Bob the surveyor lost.
