Nothing like a camp on the Mississippi River!
I sure miss camping at the river camp.

Wasn't quite this nice. Razz

Perfect location.
A straight drive up US 61 to Leland.  Cut across to Greenville,  then north to da camps. I was on 61 early this morning on that side of the river.

Those are right in the heart of the Mississippi Delta farmland and the blues.

Says 209 miles. Bout 4 hours.

Everytime you refer to a "camp" I think of tents and caravans and motorhomes all lined up.

What I see there are homes either primary homes, vacation homes or rental homes. There's some terminology that I will just never get used to! LOL

You'll never leave the city for this rough bush living.

I lived very happily on 300 acres for many years, then on 5 acres for decades.

Humor goes right over some people's heads.

Perhaps you could have added a LOL to give me a clue? Isn't that what people usually do?  Nice Camps! 553500953

That was how my old man wanted to retire.

He bought the old Steamboat Landing site, between Forked Lake and the Raquette River, back about 1967.  Far into New York's Adirondack Preserve, this was a travel route for 1890s summer people...a short railway ran between the two water-bodies. It later became a canoe-carry route.  Years later, the steamboat company was purchased by the New York Central railroad, and with time, shut down.  The Steamboat Landing, a big ticket office/waiting-room/restaurant, was semi-abandoned.  Until arsonists burned it and then, the New York Central was bought by its competitor, the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Assets had to be sold to pay for it.  Including a lot of land.  Including that landing.  My old man got it, cheap...with the ticket office demolished, the pier falling apart.  He had to pay to take down the concrete-footed pier - an "attractive nuisance."

But his dream was something like that, maybe a bit smaller.  That's what got built there, in the end, but not by him - ten years after he bought it, he realized he wasn't going to be able to retire out there.

But the land.  Absolutely beautiful.  The tree cover was different, of course - birch and conifers, not hardwoods with Spanish Moss - but it was as dense.

These days, I picture it in my mind, that vista of the Raquette River...and I can just hear banjos from the shore across the way....
