If I were to ever encounter an alien, I would certainly keep my mouth shut about it.
Wouldn't you?
Wouldn't you?

i have friends...married couple that think they have encountered aliens two times at least in their lives. Once in their home..in the bedroom and the 2nd, near smith mountain lake in early morning hours with missing time.
do you want me to recount what i remember?? At this point, she is addled because of a stroke and i don't see him enough to ask more question.

I don't think so. My friends say...they were lying in bed one night when they lived on patterson street. One night...I'll call her Carolyn 'cause that's her name.LOLOL was asleep and the husband, suddenly felt paralyzed....he could not move...there was a door to his right that came into the room that would be to the right of the bed. Something came in...and it was the usual gray/white nonbinary...lol.....et being that came up to the side of the bed...to him. I don't remember what he said it was going to do and i really don't think he said..... but he remembers being terrified and paralyzed...he could see, feel fear but could not move or talk. Finally i think he said he was able to scream and woke Carolyn up. and that was the end of that.
Now i do believe him because he firmly believes what he told us. and hell....i don't know what goes on on Patterson Street!! but the number two reason i believe him is......he's an avowed atheist.

I've pretty well held the notion that it's fairly self-centered to think that, as HUGE as a galaxy is, much less a universe, that we are the only living life forms to exist.Red Lily wrote:Crusader wrote:Red Lily wrote:Even just in the Milky Way galaxy, there are more than 300 million exoplanets that could have life on them. This means that 300 million planets are likely to have the right conditions for life, even life with a lot of complexity, to grow on their surfaces. Are there no other people in the universe?
How big is the place where we live? With the way we measure the universe and the technology we have now, we can't find out. We can make educated guesses, but we are still a long way from being able to study the universe.
We can learn more about how big our galaxy is. Overall, it's a big place with a lot of planets. But how many of these worlds are like Earth, and how many of them can people live on? This is another hard problem to solve, but we can do the math based on what we've seen over time.
New research based on information from the Kepler space observatory says that there could be up to 300 million planets in our galaxy that could support life. The good news about the new estimates is that they could be very close to Earth. None of these possibly habitable exoplanets are more than 30 light-years away.
Scientists from NASA, the SETI Institute, and other places all over the world worked together on a big project to help us learn more about the galaxy we live in.
Even though 300 million planets seems like a lot, it is only a small part of how many planets are thought to be in our galaxy. The Milky Way has at least one planet for every star, according to our best estimates. This means that the galaxy we live in could have anywhere from 100 billion to 400 billion planets.
The universe we can see
On the other hand, there are at least 125 billion galaxies in the part of the universe that we can see.

Out of ALL this we are the only intelligent life form in existence?
Any planet that could possibly support life is light years away. Does it matter if life exists elsewhere? Either we need to be able get there or they need to be able to get here for it to matter and that leaves everything up to them. All of our radio transmissions are going into space. Our welcome mat is out and any alien in range can study us. It's their move if they exist.
No it doesn't matter but it's interesting don't you think? We'll NEVER get there, wherever there is, but to think we are IT amongst the multitude of galaxies and universes out there is a naive viewpoint imo.
I think many people close their mind to the existence of other life forms because they visualize little green/grey men with big eyes, ET or maybe Alf.
Which begs the question of why do those planets exist? For us to inhabit one day? Either way, it's interesting. In my mind, if it's thinkable, it doable, and one day we humanoids will expand to Mach 5 inter-planet speeds. We will discover all kinds of new and interesting things. There is ever so much more to do yet!
All of which is why I'll never fall for world-end predictions.

I thought long and hard about a reply to that and came up empty.
Kudos.
