BUT THE BIGGEST REASON....in DC and i suspect MANY blue run cities....is that................if you back into your spot at a park or recreation area, it tellls others of similar interests that YOU are queer. and available for a ....walk.

Back when I worked for CSX...they got on a kick, that somehow backing into parking spaces was SAFER. I guess because statistically, cars backed in, had fewer parking accidents.

You know, lies, damned-lies, and statistics. Mostly there were fewer accidents because few people DID it.

But they issued an edict. ALL CARS, PRIVATE OR COMPANY, MUST BE BACKED INTO SPACES.

We...the angry Ex-Cons (former Conrail) in Buffalo...said F that, and parked as we liked.

The Terminal Stuporintendent...fresh off the plane from Jacksonville (CSX corporate offices) called a towing company to haul all those improperly-parked cars out of there.

Now, keep in mind, it's TOUGH in New York State to get a car towed - unless you're politically important. Otherwise, there's rituals, including warning, obvious violations of law, and other mitigating issues. The towing company came in, said, we can't tow these cars...and left, and sent the office a bill for the call.

While they were doing that, a material-management type, also off the plane from Jacksonville, took a company panel-van...backed it into a space, up against the building, where CONRAIL VEHICLES ONLY was posted...she backed that long van in...back...back...no parking-space curbstone...she bashed right into the locker-room wall, and punched a nice big hole in it. Masonry...it cracked and fell, and much bigger than the parking space.

That was the end of THAT idiocy.

Yeah, it's not "nice" to leave the cart in the lot. But it's a cost of doing business.

Ya charge a deposit for the cart, or put up a fence that carts can't be taken through...and in short order, you're going to have a closed grocery store, with competitors enjoying your former customers' business.

FWIW, I usually don't even take the cart out the door...just grab the bags. If I have heavy stuff, the cart comes along...and gets put where it won't roll. I generally park on a side or back or far-away space, so idiots don't park right up against me...although they often do, anyway. (The whole damn lot empty; 30 or more empty spaces next to mine, and some jag-off has to park RIGHT NEXT to me...)

If that had been me that moron accousted, I might have come out of the truck with a jack handle or pry bar. That shit just trips my trigger.
