interesting story, but a i gleened alot more than that after researching this months ago for a reason i forget now but had to do with your section of historical facts. NC fron what i recall eroniously took a torpeado at some time, wether thats true or not is immeterial. they took a shell splinter from a bomb at Savo Island that caused at least if not more damage as the torpeado hit. please, what ever you do, dont stop posting about this section here. everytime you do it gets my thinking cap agoing. thankyou.

quick fun fact. im one of a very few who used to go onto the USS TEXAS and take out my car key and on the inside of it, ring the official ships bell of the USS HOUSTON. as they used to keep it in the captains galley at the bows under the chain locker.
