Vaccines for pets
Does anyone here vaccinate their cats or dogs for common canine and feline diseases ?

My pets were up to date when I got them but they haven't had any shots since. They are indoor cats.
When I had outdoor cats..........I kept their vaccinations up to date.

In NZ you cant put a cat or dog into a kennel whilst on holiday if its vax's are not current

When we had a dog his vax's were always up to date. He occasionally got put into a kennel when we were in Alaska. I don't know the Alaska laws on that.vege57 wrote:Jen wrote:My pets were up to date when I got them but they haven't had any shots since. They are indoor cats.

We NEVER kennel our cats and wouldn't even think of doing that.

Re: Vaccines for pets
Im not sure that it is a legal thing in NZ, I just have not found a kennel that will take them , I guess they look on it as an animal welfare issue
You lodge your un vaxed animal there and it could pass on something to someone else's pet, as we know the efficacy of vaccines is not 100% but the more animals that are vaccinated the better the chance of not giving the disease a foot hold

Initial vaccines up to the year mark are fine. After that titer tests for antibodies. Over vaccination is unnecessary and dangerous to pet health. Just as in humans.

I have left my two cats home alone for a couple of weeks. Just load up their food and water to last that long and they're good with it. When I returned, they just sort of looked at me, "Oh, it's you ..."

How does over vaccination work , to many times for same disease ?

Yes, along with all the adjuvants.

Most people probably find it easier just to re-vaccinate their animals every so often, , rather than testing for antibodies
