Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, this week praised his colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee for including his amendment to the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) intended to prevent content moderation and censorship of conservatives on major social media and search engines.

"I think this is a good amendment," Cruz said during a hearing on Thursday. "I think this is a significant amendment. I think this amendment protects against this antitrust liability being used as a shield for censorship."

The JCPA passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today with the backing of Sens. John Kennedy, R-La., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

Not that it means much, I like Ted Cruz.

It would be comedy IF we didn't have a majority of Democrats in the Senate, Congress and a Democrat President. The gasoline prices, empty store shelves, "Vaccines", "mandates", lockdowns, mask requirements and stolen elections are no laughing matter!

Then there is Hunter's laptop, the kick-backs that Biden gets, the military equipment left for terrorists, unemployment, "green new deal", the Russia/Ukraine war, "defunding of Police", liberal war on the Constitution, liberal war on self defense, illegal immigration, etc., etc., etc.

I notice that the liberal sites and liberal "News" are STILL trying to bash President Trump. What would they do if they didn't have DJT to bash? Why, they would be completely lacking in topics! Heaven knows that they are not going to report or say anything about the Demented-in-Chief!

Media organizations argue that to gain negotiating leverage and level the playing field, they must be able to collectively bargain with the platforms, something that’s prohibited under U.S. antitrust laws.

Protecting large monopolies from small businesses was not really the spirit in which fthe U.S. Anti-Trust laws were written. They were written to protect one company from a bunch of smaller companies banding together in order to destroy the company that they decided got too big for its britches. From what I gather, destroying Google and/or Facebook is not the aim of these smaller publishers. Their aim is to simply have a fair shake at the playing field.
That is not to imply that I find this new law a useless tool, or one that shouldn't be supported. It was merely to point out a little discrepancy. As Amy Klobuchar put it:

Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who is leading the initiative in the Senate, said the legislation is necessary to help publishers better negotiate by giving them tools to counteract the power of Google and Facebook.

In its report on the findings of the investigation, the committee recommended providing publishers the antitrust safe harbor provision, saying the risk associated with antitrust exemptions are low, “while the benefits of preserving access to high-quality journalism are difficult to overstate.”

Yep.

An example of the haughtiness of both Google and F.B.:

Australia’s initial proposal would have forced the companies to submit to arbitration to determine how much to pay publishers if deals couldn’t be struck. In response, Google threatened to shut down its search engine, while Facebook imposed a news blackout on its platform in the county.
