Typhoon Nanmadol Approaching Japan

Two million people in Japan have been told to seek shelter before the arrival of Typhoon Nanmadol, the national broadcaster, NHK, said, as the weather agency issued a rare “special warning” about the powerful storm.

NHK, which compiles alerts issued by local authorities, said level four evacuation instructions – the second highest – were in place for people in Kagoshima, Kumamoto and Miyazaki in the southern Kyushu region.

Japan’s weather agency had issued its highest alert for the Kagoshima region. It is the first typhoon-linked special warning issued outside the Okinawa region since the current system began in 2013.

Typhoon Nanmadol was carrying gusts of up to 270km/h (168mph) on Saturday near the remote Minami Daito island, 400km (250 miles) east of Okinawa island, the weather agency said.

I see it has weakened some. Still dangerous cat 5.

Nanmadol sounds like a medicine.  Is Typhoon Tramadol next? Cat 5 is nothing to sneeze at.

Lost power at 730 it came back for 90 minutes and has been out since. Time now 10PM UTC. Lot of leaves down, little flooding here. I've enough generator gas for 3-4 days. No leaks in the house. No trees down in my local area. Fiona has now cleared the island, Hughes is back up now that Fiona is no longer blocking the satellite. Any new developments I'll let you know

Hello all stations: Pan Pan, Pan Pan, Pan Pan. Update we got 'tricity back at 1 AM 5 UTC. Seems to be holding, but I haven't put away the gennie just yet. Lt of cleanup to do. Just leaves and dead fall, I think I'll wait until it dries a bit, before tackling that chore.

I've got an old friend that I haven't talked to in years that owns a surf store down there in Tres something . Hope he didn't get hit hard .
