Why Buy American?

I’ve heard a lot of excuses about the “global economy”. I’ve heard a lot about the “poor” in other countries and how we should “help them” by buying foreign goods even if those goods are cheap and inferior. The message seems to be that we should buy the foreign goods regardless of what those foreign countries are doing, how they are living nor how they are being governed. I might add that the Wuhan virus that is making some Americans ill and killing others is from a foreign country, China with the support, encouragement and propaganda of the U.S. government.

I opened my Bible and went to the 21st chapter of Matthew and verse 12. (The same story can be found in the book of Luke chapter 19, as well.) It is the account of Jesus trashing the tables, money and goods of those who were selling in the temple. I read: “Then, Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold Doves. And He said to them, ‘It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer’, but you have made it a den of thieves.’”

Now the unbeliever might ask:, “Don’t those people have a RIGHT to buy and sell to feed themselves and their family?” Yes, they have a RIGHT to buy and sell but, they did NOT have a RIGHT to take advantage of people. Notice that Jesus did not just sternly warn them, He didn’t just chastise them and He didn’t merely tell them that what they were doing was wrong. The Bible tells us that He overturned their tables and chairs, scattered their profits and basically stopped them from taking advantage of any more people.

I can’t speak for you but, I live in America. I love America. I was born in America. My neighbors are American. My home, wife, kids and Grandkids are American. When I drive or use my cellphone, it is here in America. When I buy something, go to the bank, go to the Post office or anywhere I go, it is here in America. My neighbors work here in America. When I go to the grocery store, the gas station or the pharmacy, it is here in America. I've never been to a foreign country and have no plans to visit a foreign country.

If I am spending my hard earned money, I want other American Businesses and other American workers to benefit from that spending. I’m not spending my hard earned money to benefit some foreign country. I’m not spending my hard earned money to create jobs nor wealth in some foreign country. I’m not spending my hard earned money to boost the Communists in some foreign country. I’m not spending my hard earned money so some foreign government can attack, wound and kill American military soldiers. I’m not spending my hard earned money so some foreign country can create a virus to use against us. There are unemployed HERE! There are homeless HERE! There are poor people HERE! There are starving children HERE! There are families HERE! There are needs HERE! There are businesses HERE!
