Question about phones. Empty Question about phones.

Post by Lummy Thu Aug 11, 2022 12:27 pm

Question at TracFone: Does TracFone Wireless charge for wi-fi?

Answer: "No. As long as your phone is active and has Wi-Fi capabilities, there is no charge."

I know what Tracfone is -- a cell phone call carrier. I know what wireless is. I do not know what this means. Anyone else know?

I can understand your confusion. G.F. has a similar issue. Do you recall text messages stating "charges may apply?" Voice and Text always use a cell tower. Data such as emails, games, internet searches, maps etc. May use either. WiFi is offline as far as your cell provider is concerned. Wifi is provided to your home* or area by a cable/phone company which may or may not be your cell provider. It is separate entity and enters your home for example via satellite, cable or telephone line. When you do an internet search at home for example, the cell company is not involved. When you are in your car, that is another matter. That is Cell tower provided. Even if your car has WiFi the car is connected to a cell tower or a satellite.
* The exception here is your phone may have "hotspot" capabilities, in that case the cell tower is providing access to the web.
Here in P.R. we have a program called Whats App. if you make a call using that App in your home there is no cell charge. Again if you are out of range of WiFi your cell provider is carrying the load. Video can be sent via What's App.

Before I comment seriously on this, I'd like to know what GF is.

I hear what's app is awesome!
But like Tik-Tok it is a major purveyor and advertiser on the porn sites.
My brother told me this. So i dismiss using it.  Razz

Uhhh Girl Friend. I can't think of anything that can't be used for either good or bad. You are either for or against free speech. And yes, if you have a telephone and it is capable of receiving calls you are going to get calls which you want no part of.
