before ukraine took out that bridge over the dneiper, russia had between 6,000-8,000 troops on the right bank. the bridge was a hail mary, as the ukrains were already reeling from their supposed victory march. in CW times comparison, it would be akin to Longstreet invading ohio with 4,000 troops and smashing all opposition.
