Gold Ridge has never been profitable, is low grade and has minimal reserves.  China intends to build and control port facilities, air fields, roads, rail and bridges and their main aim is not the gold.

These agreements leave the door wide open for the deployment of the PPC military.  They are building military bases less than 2,000km from the Australian coast.  They intend to station navy ships and defence personnel there to "protect the billions of dollars of their Chinese infrastructure investments."  

They are also pressuring Kiribati, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Niue and Micronesia.

They have repeatedly tried to/and gained access to militarily significant airfields and ports in the region.  They want to cut off Australia and the Pacific Island nations, cut off supply routes to the US and isolate the US strategic military facilities in Australia.  In the meantime they will plunder and deplete the seas of fish, oil, rare earth minerals and gas etc.

Japan, Australia, South Korea etc all rely on unfettered access to the South China Sea to trade with the rest of the world.  It represents one third of all global shipping.

Maybe all before they invade Taiwan?   Who knows?    But really, it's NOT about the gold.  It's about power and absolute control in the southern seas and probably all with a future war in mind with the US!
