Armed Feds Pay a Visit: Amish Farmer Faces Hundreds of Thousands in Fines

Amos Miller, an Amish farmer who runs a holistically managed small farm in Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania, grows and prepares food in tune with nature, the way he believes God intended. This seems like a sound idea to the approximately 4,000 customers who purchase Miller’s meat, eggs and dairy products from his private, members-only food club.

The federal government, however, appears to disagree. A federal judge recently ordered Miller to cease and desist all meat sales, Our Organic Wellness reported. U.S. marshals were deployed to search Miller’s property. They inventoried his stock to assure he doesn’t sell or slaughter more animals. In other words, the feds shut Amos Miller down.

Miller claims he is being persecuted by the federal government for practicing his religious freedom to grow and prepare food according to his religious beliefs.

Once upon a time, Americans respected the notion of self-reliance. It was at the heart of the American mythos. Not anymore.

In March, George Lapsley, a court-appointed expert, was to receive “unimpeded access” to Miller’s farm to inspect the facilities, according to Food Safety News. On March 11, Lapsley reported that Mr. Miller did not fully cooperate and requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.

had there been any customer complaints?? Then butt out feds.    We all need to engage in the underground economy ...and we will.  it's comin'.  as a matter of fact. I am all for shafting the feds.  Underground economy, bartering, under the table, growing and sharing food,  maybe even jack sparrowing our entertainment if you get my drift.  Why accomodate them.  All they've done is stick their fingers in our eyes, our lives, betrayed their oaths, the constitution, this country, it's citizens.  They're political dicks now.

amish and mennonites have been granted special privileges for years. Now they want to regulate them? LOLOL I guess the dems want to make sure no mennonintes/amish are successfully feeding anyone during the dems plan to starve us all out.

Surely you're not suggesting that these altruistic, or even just plain old lawful, notions are the true reasons behind the feds attempts to shut this man down, are you? The feds haven't allowed themselves to get involved in Amish communities for hundreds of years; likely because there's no votes to be had. Besides, they so very rarely cause trouble.

There's another thing at play. Bird-in-Hand is a private club, and Amos Miller only sells to members. Different rules apply to private clubs than do businesses open to the general public.

And again, you don't really believe the feds are concerned w/people's health, are you?! If so,

I didn't know any of that so thank you.

The government is taking peremptory action. When the planned famine is implemented they don't want the members of his food club to be able to get food.

And who gave the feds the right to determine what is good and healthy. I recall the food pyramid.

I also recognize the destruction of now over 50 food processing plants not to mention the death of thousands of cattle in the mid west.

This president if you can call him that, is a disgrace...a CURSE on this nation.
