From what I read, it might be preferable to die on the sidewalk than submit to black nursing "care". Of course, there's that one black that disproves it all.

Dont think you have nothing to fear from whites and hispanics in nursing homes. I would not put my mom in one. We need to get back to families taking care of their elderly. That is the only safe way.

Be prepared if you take care of someone at home... I took care of mom the last 5 years of her life. Being the only family, I had to do ALL the jobs of a nursing facility by myself--laundry, cooking all meals, dressing her, had a baby monitor above my head when I went to bed at night so I could hear her if she was moving around or if the bed alarm went off. If she had diarrhea, her bed was full of crap and her clothes covered in it, had to clean all that up, which takes a while. Had to learn how to change a bed while a patient is in it. Had to learn how to use a hoyer lift to get her in/out of bed/chair. Had to check her blood every day to determine how much blood thinner to give her. People with dementia/alzheimer's when they have a UTI, also have hallucinations/delusions, which also means some of their medications don't work until the infection is resolved. To name a few... About every 4-5 months hospice would put her in respite care for 5 days because I was EXHAUSTED. The last 8 months of her life, the only way to feed her was baby food through a syringe. I RARELY had a night where I got more then 3 hours of consecutive sleep. For about a month after she died, about all I did was----SLEEP.
