Lol. I haven't gone to Mardi Gras for years. Too many drunk people akkin' da fool. I'm going Mardi Gras on the back deck a little later with a cold brew and cook some gratons(cracklins) and Maque Choux(mock shoe). Dats smothered corn with andouille and tomatoes sauce and a little onion.2cent wrote:Heck, Mardi Gras partying is even celebrated in CT! But thanks for reminding me I'm out of beer. I'll have to go in the opposite direction to the dollar store. I've been watching cars on the highway heading into town to see the MG , bumper to bumper since 7am. It's a beautiful, mild day in the 70s and the crowd will be large.
The little town of less than 5000 will swell to 60,000-100,000+.
From I've seen on the highway, closer to 100,000. They cancelled Mardi Gras last year, so folks are eager to party on the streets.
Off to get beer. Be back in a bit.

Re: Happy Mardi Gras!
You would not believe the amount of garbage left in the streets, on the side of the streets, in the lots off to the side where they set up to cook, etc. It's mind boggling. Even in a little town.jirqoadai wrote:i saw the aftermath. yeah. i forgot to ship my weekly garbage over to there.
And I hate to say it but it's pure dee fact!
The parade route is divided into 2 demographics. Black and white.
In the white sector, hardly no garbage. In the black sector, it's ankle deep! No damn manners or respect!
They start cleaning the streets at midnite after the parade. The city has to hire street sweeping machines to help to windrow the trash so workers can come behind manually and push it into front end loaders.
By morning, most of the parade route is fairly clean. But the adjacent properties are still littered. The city will not clean the littered side streets or private property.
You see the same thing when they have music festivals.
When the white bands play, no garbage. The mayor is black so all the black music gets prime billing at the night time spots. It's mostly black folk attending.
When it's all over and they leave, it looks like a tornado struck .
And there are plenty trash receptacles to go around.
But they just throw it on the ground.

I had a look and it's actually been 3 years since Mardi Gras. There was no celebration in 2021 or 2020.HawkTheSlayer wrote:Lol. I haven't gone to Mardi Gras for years. So 2 years of missed parades.
First positive thing I've encountered with Covid.

It's awesome if you've never been. I could put you on my shoulders so you could catch more beads.
