Not really but if you own a home you should have some basic plumbing /electric knowledge . I had to repair a heating line once and its a pain in the ass to shut down the system ,empty the lines of all water and to try to solder the repair because the excess water always gets drawn to the area you put a torch to . I took a day and shut down my water supply and burner and put shut off valves everywhere a future problem could come up , even the outside faucets .A little work on a warm day saved quite a few problems during the cold winters over the years .

biggest nobrainer would be installing a 4" ballcock on your sewer pipe. that way you could save your house when a flood comes and the sewer main tries to blow your toilets off the bolts in your floors. which if the sewer sludge heads your way, itll do. if you have the ballcock closed, this wont be a major issue.
