Michigan Town Dumps ‘God’ to Appease Angry Atheists

Hudsonville, Michigan is the kind of midwestern town where you’d like to raise a family. Good people. Good neighborhoods. For years the city commission has had a mission – to serve God through making stronger families and bettering community life.

It’s a noble mission — unless you are an atheist.

“Probably ‘striving to serve good’ would satisfy many people, but isn’t God good,” city leader John O’Brien told television station WZZM.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation says they received a complaint about Hudsonville’s mission statement.

The Wisconsin-based atheist group says serving God is inappropriate and unconstitutional.
