When I visited Acapulco in Mexico a few of us guys commandeered a taxi, it was 1983, everything was cheap in Mexico, we had the taxi driver take us everywhere, unfortunately the taxi had no air con.

During our ride around Acapulco the taxi driver motioned to a building yonder, he motioned index finger and thumb of his left hand and put his right index finger through in a back and forth motion and said in broken English “That was owned by John Wayne and Johnny Weissmuller, they took their women there to.....motioning with fingers”

Of course it was the Hotel Los Flamingos, a secret hideaway for the rich and famous.

Even back then John Wayne was ahead of his time.

I saw a doco a while back , As a youth Johnny was working on the set of western and Wyatt Earp as a consultant where they met, In the doco they claimed that it was his meeting of Wyatt that inspired him to become a western actor
