United Airlines boots Florida man fighting mask mandate with a red thong, and folks followed him!
Lots of people have expressed distaste for mask mandates and found ways to protest them. One Florida man, however, was recently ousted from a flight, not for declining to wear a mask, but for what he wore as a mask.
Adam Jenne of Cape Coral found out the hard way on Wednesday that United Airlines doesn’t accept a woman’s thong undergarment as facial protection. Originally bound for Washington, DC, he was ejected from the flight before it could take off at Fort Lauderdale Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office was awaiting him when he was removed, but as of this writing, he doesn’t appear to have been charged with anything.
In a statement to the New York Post, United Airlines stood by their decision and commended their crew for the way they handled the situation:
“The customer clearly wasn’t in compliance with the federal mask mandate and we appreciate that our team addressed the issue on the ground prior to takeoff, avoiding any potential disruptions [in] the air.”
Yet according to Jenne himself, it’s all part of a stunt he’s been performing with multiple airlines, he said to NBC 2:
“It’s all nonsense, COVID doesn’t know that we’re at cruising altitude. It’s stupid. The whole thing is theater. Every single flight has been met with different reactions from the flight crew. Some with a wild appreciation, others confrontational,” he added.
Jenne did get a refund for his flight, though, in spite of the sheriff’s office and the Transport Safety Administration getting involved and says he plans to try again on Thursday via another airline. For Jenne, it has more to do with protesting the mask mandate than any kind of actual attempt to use an improvised mask.
Jenne noted that he has been banned from flying United Airlines following his stunt but expressed his surprise when other passengers, “maybe a dozen,” followed him off the flight after he was booted.
Reactions on Twitter were the usual mixed bag. Some people stood with United:
I will laugh first and then say they have the right to ban him those times where mask assist in saving lives why be extra and where something that clearly is not part of the guidelines and not even in ur private vehicle on a plane smh

While others saw the man as a sort of folk hero, or even a victim of discrimination:
I believe a thong can identify as a mask! And if you believe in science it offers almost the same level of protection. Shame on United for their blatant discrimination.

Not all hero’s wear capes .

For Jenne though, there’s another flight to catch:
“Hopefully, Spirit Airlines has a better sense of humor [on Thursday].”

I love this guy!
What's the big damn deal? People wear home made masks all the time, how is wearing a thong any different?

In the video, people were asking what was wrong with the mask he was using. Some of them walked off the plane behind him....

the airlines have to follow many laws.
They have a duty of care toward their own staff and all the other passengers.
He lost the price of the airfare as did any others who left.
He was probably ranting on about 'his rights' and some crackpot conspiracy theory.

Airlines are "Woke."
I won't use them. Twenty years of reflexively obeying government diktats regarding passengers - since 9-11 - leaves them not knowing HOW to make decisions for themselves.
When I got into railroading in the late 1990s, I saw some of that in that field, too. Conrail had a lot of local autonomy with management - decisons were made locally, and management was very approachable. Unlike most railroads today.
But, even then. As a new switchman, I asked a new management trainee, why we were doing something THIS way, and not THAT way.
Because, he said, the FRA likes to see it THIS way.
Too bad, I said, that we can't make decisions like that on our own. Because THAT way would save time and be just as safe.
"You know," he said, "Even I wouldn't trust us to make the right decisions on a lot of things."
Sure. Later I learned how the FRA hires its inspectors and supervision. With a color chip, the Race Card, and a plumbing check.
Wise decision-making.
Airlines are the same way, now. They've Woke me right out of any plans to fly. EVER.
If that means, coupled to their making car-travel illegal...that I can't travel at all...it is what it is. We're on a collision course with reality, anyway.

......... Overall, 204,098,982 people or 62% of the population have been fully vaccinated. ..........

.......... While federal data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is incomplete, only accounting for a subset of states, the analysis found that between April and November, more than 16,700 vaccinated people had died -- the vast majority since the start of the delta variant's surge, earlier this summer. Similarly, nearly all – approximately 96% -- of the 1.8 million breakthrough cases – have come during the same time period.
Comparatively, in those select states, at least 5.8 million unvaccinated Americans had tested positive, and just under 64,000 unvaccinated Americans had died, during the same time period. .............

The analysis of state data reveals that the percentages of fully vaccinated individuals testing positive, requiring hospitalization, or dying of coronavirus remain quite low when compared to the percentage of unvaccinated Americans experiencing severe illness because of the virus. Since the rollout began last winter, only a small fraction of fully vaccinated people in the United States have experienced a breakthrough infection, and an even smaller percentage have been hospitalized or died. ...........

Re: United Airlines boots Florida man fighting mask mandate with a red thong, and folks followed him!
Meanwhile, CEO's from Delta and Southwestern Airlines tell Congress that masks on an airplane are a waste of time due to cycle of the way air turns over in a pressurized air cabin, HEPA filters, and the filtration system.
Yup, there's a nay-sayer in the bunch, but whoever wants to read that part can hunt it down for himself.
Kirby spoke of partnering with the Cleveland Clinic and how the Department of Defense tested airflow on United’s airplanes. “And the conclusion of that is that effectively anywhere that you're going to be indoors, the airplane is the safest place that you can be indoors, it's because of the air filtration,” said the United CEO.
Next, Wicker deftly linked air filtration with the face mask mandate. “Will we ever, do you think, be able to get on an airplane without masks?” the senator asked of Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly and American Airlines CEO Doug Parker.
Kelly echoed the other CEOs’ comments on air quality, noting that his airline partners with UT Southwestern and Stanford School of Medicine. “Yeah, I think the case is very strong that masks don't add much if anything in the air cabin environment. It is very safe, and very high quality compared to any other indoor setting.”
https://www.forbes.com/sites/suzannerowankelleher/2021/12/17/airline-ceos-congress-mask-mandate-factcheck-flight-attendant/?sh=537ce00a6666“Let me ask about air quality,” said Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi, who seized on a line from the opening statement of John Laughter, Delta Air Lines’ Executive Vice President & Chief of Operations: “We continue to electrostatically spray our aircraft interiors with high-grade disinfectant and use HEPA air filters to remove 99.99% of airborne particles onboard.”
Wicker repeated the line and asked Laughter if the HEPA filters were new “or there all along?”
“Those are HEPA filters that are part of an aircraft circulation system. And I would assume that our all modern airliners have those same systems,” Laughter said.
Yup, there's a nay-sayer in the bunch, but whoever wants to read that part can hunt it down for himself.

Yet, this week all the major airline went before Congress asking them to drop the mask mandate on airplanes as the hepa filtered air is among the safest in the world.Sprintcyclist wrote:.............
