Vengeance Is Mine Says The Lord
Romans 12:19 - Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.
When I found out about my wife's infidelity, I was livid and wanted revenge. I wanted to humiliate her and do as much damage as I could to her. I decided to go the high road and put that off until later. I'll admit my motive was to make myself look better to the courts and keep myself out of legal trouble, but being a Christian and remembering what I read in the Bible was probably what lead me to that decision. I didn't call her names or force our sons to choose a side. I only told people about the divorce on a "need to know" basis. I've looked out for my wife's interests with financial assistance and warned her sister of her behavior and to watch out for her covert boyfriends having access to their personal lives and info. I could have argued for more money, but she got 1/2 of everything we own. I only sought to completely separate myself from her as much as possible.
Now that the divorce is final, I came to realize that God's vengeance is complete and I didn't have to lift a finger. Being rude and abusive toward her or her boyfriends would only make me look petty. Most of her friends have abandoned her, nobody respects her, her boyfriends have dumped her, and she is absolutely miserable and misses me more than ever. Every time she lied to me during the divorce process has came back to bite her. Our families see this plain as day and even her family respects me. My financial future has improved greatly over what it was before the divorce began. God is good. My sons are doing well also and seem to be adjusting to the changes well.

Sometimes the "vengeance" we seek happens while we are here. Sometimes though, it doesn't. Either way God wins. Even if the offender has an awesome life, lots of friends, tons of money, plenty of material possessions, etc., God still wins.
Eternity is an awfully long time. The reward for the faithful is an eternity with God. The "vengeance" from God's wrath is an eternity without God. In both cases, God wins.
It is great that things worked out for you. For others, things are very different. For example, there are Christians who don't have enough to eat, don't have enough money to rub two nickels together, cannot even buy their children one gift at Christmas, etc. Some Christians struggle on a daily basis for the very things that we take for granted. Those Christians still have the promise of an eternity with God.
As you said, "God is good".

I will offer this...as the frontispiece of the novel I'm forever going to write.
"Vengeance is Mine. I will repay. Thus sayeth THE LORD." Paul to the Romans.
"Free will is a myth" -- B. F. Skinner.
"If my hands slack, I rob God - for God cannot create Stradivarius violins without Antonio..." -- Antonio Stradivari.
