Medical Care Rant
I'm pretty ticked off at the so-called "Orthopedic Surgeon" I've been going to for my back problems.
First, he treated me for bursitis in my left hip. Wasn't getting me anywhere, and the cortisone shot didn't do diddly for the pain, although I dutifully did the exercises daily.
Another doc was in for my next visit. HE is the one who saw fit to order an MRI. No fun, but worth it.
The MRI proved out that it wasn't bursitis at all, but a (very) "irritated" sacroiliac joint, in my RIGHT hip/lower back. The only joint that's not supposed to move, does.
So, in I go to see my original Orth Surg, and he gave me a cortisone shot where I actually need one. (Fiasco, but behind us. No pun intended. lol) Pain relief kicked in 2 days later, although I was told it could take 2 WEEKS. I was beyond amazed! Nearly no pain! I could vacuum, take care of our home, rake leaves somewhat. Not like a 20 yr old, mind you, but sweep, and do stuff to at least an agreeable degree. (I keep a tidy home. It's important.)
Then off to P/T it was, where I was assessed, then set up w/8 appts. They were concentrating on taking care of that S/I joint. They, along w/the daily exercises at home, were helping, but nowhere near a 'fix.'
Upon my 6th visit, I tell my Physical Therapist about my leg going to sleep, from hip to toe, after sitting for as little as 20 minutes. But only after I get up to walk.
She orders the MRI to be sent to her.
WHAT???!!! Why was that not done on day ONE!!??
Turns out, not only is my S/I joint a mess, but discs 1-5 in my lower back are bulged to varying degrees. (Mild to severe.)
I'm so mad I want to cry!! It wasn't until my 7th visit that I got put on a decompression machine. (Amazing, in that it is set to each individual's need to something the microsecond.) I loved it, but my last visit is tomorrow, and I know two shots at that isn't gonna cut it.
Damn it! I want CURED!
Fwiw, w/o the 'at home' exercises, I would not have been able to get out of bed this morning. Had a P/T visit, so was determined.
Yes, the cortisone shot is wearing off - in a matter of weeks. I thought these things were supposed to last months.
My daughter will be home in 2 WEEKS! I've got shopping to do! Cleaning, wrapping, decorating, ....
And...
Anyone else particularly ticked off at 'lack of proper care'?
What I'm pissed off at the most is all this time...wasted! ACK!
