the boys aren't adults.    Seems the least that could have been done was to get parental involvement and permission.

They may look like adults but they're really not. The brain doesn't even fully develop until the age of 23-24. They can't drink yet they could be sent off to war to kill or be killed. It's a confusing time for all kids.
