Re: Do Cats & Dogs Know What Babies Are?
I'm not sure about cats; but I'm convinced dogs know what a baby is.
How? Smell, and instinct.
I've seen adult dogs take abuse from infants that would have gotten other people bitten; and they just have that annoyed look-away moment, as they politely ignore it. You know, turning the head, looking away? A dog's way of saying, you're rude. Or, saying, I'm annoyed.
But they take it. Toddlers learning to walk, will trip over the dog, and the dog rushes in to lick the baby's face. Doesn't get angry.
I haven't seen cats with infants, so I don't know. Conventional wisdom says cats aren't as intelligent as dogs, but I don't know. Cats certainly are not nearly as social. Do they have the same instincts towards youngsters of their community? Cats, unlike dogs, don't naturally form packs.
