The Radioactive Cat
Speck is in the hospital with two thyroid tumors. He is getting radiation treatments over four days that will remove the tumors. And, he will be radioactive for 10 to 12 days after he comes home. No cuddling, no petting, no kitty kisses. Waste removed immediately and put into a sealed container. He is supposed to be fine afterwards. Poor kitty. He isn't going to glow.

I hope he's ok poor lil thing. I don't see why you can't cuddle and pet him afterwards though? He'll really need it then.
I can understand being careful with the removal of waste but why can't he be petted? People who have radiation treatment aren't isolated.

Speck is 12. When they got him he was too little to be a spot.

Re: The Radioactive Cat
I've got a soft spot for black cats...actually for any solid-color cats. The tabby or mackerel pattern is more typical, and it's not the cat's fault how he's dressed...but a glossy black tuxedo (white patch on the chest under the neck) is absolutely beautiful.
Even without...I'm not superstitious. I hear how it's hard to get black cats a home. I can't imagine why, really, except for stuff people learn as kids.
That said...one of my mother's later cats, was pure grey. Looked like metal primer. Another beautiful animal, well-muscled - he came in as a stray, a big kitten that had been on his own awhile...but, absolute grey.
It would be like owning a beautiful new Mustang...painted in grey primer paint.
But that's just me. I guess it's a good thing he's black - if he were white, you'd see the glow from the radioactive dose.

Re: The Radioactive Cat
There is a camera in his cat cottage so we can see him which we do all the time. It will be a long four days.

Re: The Radioactive Cat
It is absolutely heartbreaking.
We are not to hold, pet, sit next to, or allow Speck on the bed. He has to shed his radioactiveness. Two weeks.
At first he went around to everyone to get affection. Now he is just sitting in the corner with his head down staring at the floor. He has a bad smell so the other cat won't come near him. Sad kitty. He thinks no one loves him.
