The obvious lesson in this is: There's a great deal to be said for dumb phones.

Actually, no there isn't. They can be hacked and trashed while you talk. They are barely usable when their tiny speakers crackle, snap and pop.

I dont think that it just an amateur hacker thing, certainly you would be looking at state players for the most part. Both official and renegade.

Since a "smart" phone costs as much as an A.G. Bell phone...and the non-computer cell phones are disappearing...I just leave the stupid "smart" phone on the desk. I'm not with any company and when I watch anything on the computer, I use headphones.

I take it with me only when I think/know I'll need it. If I'm not expecting a call, it's turned off. And since the battery doesn't drop when it's off, I don't think it's recording anything.

It is what it is. I'm really coming to hate these tech dweebs.

Most people should realise that SIM cards will always reveal your location because phone towers work like radar. They send out a continuous electronic wave (essentially sonar) which will contact SIM cards which then bounce signals back. Phone doesnt need to be on.

I doubt that last.

More likely to induce some sort of current in it

Much like how you can get a power source from wi-fi if you have a wi-fi adapter, you can recharge laptops in this manner.

My smart phone (not Apple) was always busy winking, blinking flashing and rolling its screen as if that was the point of having it. I always had to wonder what it was doing while being so distracting ...
