I've never see a water moccasin/cotton mouth like that.
They are straight up black here. But I did go search and Kris's looks like a moccasin indigenous to the southeastern US.

Fl has our own distinct subspecies "Agkistrodon conanti" They also turn much darker as they age. Yours should also be more patterned as juveniles. Many mistake the young for copperheads, close relative along with the "mexican moccasin" or Cantil, all are in the Agkistrodon family. See the similarity of the Cantil? Rather unlikely he would leave prime habitat and go 10 miles. I trust a viper more than most people, you know what it is and what it will do if you fuck up. Snakes have never scared me.

It was as close to 100% escape proof as such enclosures ever get. Nevertheless, when I had the tank inside, the first thing I check upon awakening and returning home was that he was still in the tank.

We get the odd sea snake on the shores of northern NZ, A couple of weeks back one turned up,

Though sea snakes and kraits are occasional visitors to New Zealand's waters, they are considered a native species under the Wildlife Act 1953.
