She was on her last legs. Her husband has died, she has nothing left except her little son. She is out gathering some water to make her last meal for herself and her son and then they will lie down and die.
But this man, this dusty, thirsty, hungry man asks her for water and she goes to get it for him. And then he asks her for bread and she tells him what her plans are.
He tells her. Go and make a little bread for me and bring it to me..then make bread for you and your son for God says that during this drought/famine, your jar of oil and your bowl of flour will not run out.
I wonder if she did exactly as Elijah told her.. Make the cake and bring it to him FIRST in faith and THEN make the bread for her son and herself. Sometimes it is best to follow directions explicitly.
The widow found a truism, "When you come to the place where He is all you've got, you'll fine that He's all you need."
And to bad if he isnt, you'll just have to make do

@Jen. Something to think about. Elijah goes to the king... Gives a pronouncement and then hell breaks out for the next 3.5 years with that drought.
sound familiar? LOL
Then God tells Elijah to separate himself. Go the Brook Cherith which means cut away, cut apart, separate, amputate if you will. And there in that place, God refines him. He's here to learn some things, think about some things. Because God is preparing him for another assignment that is going to be BOLD and no turning back. ( Mt Carmel)
Do you see where i'm going with this?

Bible Study Group had to take a break this past week. Family responsibilities for several of us. So will pick up again this coming week. I hope to finish these few chapters concerning Elijah and his significance plus....just an introduction to his hand picked successor...Elisha. That's one that you atheists can REALLY sink your teeth into.

Ravens
http://naturemappingfoundation.org/natmap/facts/common_raven_712.html
Often we see very large crows and we think they are ravens. There are distinct differences in the two.
Ravens are VERY intelligent. It is said that they are the Einsteins of the bird world.

Re: Elijah..1 Kings 17 -
WHY would God use a raven to bring food to Elijah? Seems like a more likeable, dependable bird would be better wouldn't it? Ravens are greedy, omniverous, will eat food in any state, restless, YUGE, will kill other birds, vicious.
I'll think about this awhile.
