Elijah..1 Kings 17 -

15 Then the Lord said to him: “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria.

16 Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.

17 It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.

18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

The LORD says leave Horeb/Sinai and go to Damascus.  NO small feat.   500 miles??   Peoples modes of transportation in those days WAS by foot..but there were camels, donkeys, horses, sheep.  



Why would a Prophet of Judah/Israel's anointing be worthwhile??  ESPECIALLY for an Enemy nation??   Maybe because They had heard of what he had done with the altar and the fire??

Jehu would be the annihilator of Ahab's seventy sons.  The LORD had  pronounced a curse on the house of Ahab that his line would be wiped out.

AND Elijah would choose his successor which would be Elisha.

Elisha would be his first 'anointing' of the three. He finds Elisha plowing his father's field in Abel-Mecholah. There were 12 pairs of oxen pulling plows and Elisha was in number 12 spot.
