thats so sad. that someone here has never studied any dogs behaviour. the dog finaly was given its own pet. which the dog loves more than anything else on this planet, including its owner.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a lot to that. Goldens have a a bit of a reputation too for being the "class clowns".

Nope. I've watched dogs, cats, and dogs and cats together long enough to have a feeling.

Interspecies friendships are unnatural. No, I'm not saying that animals of different species don't mingle - especially if they grew up together. But adult dogs don't understand cats - who don't wag their tail or engage in any of the dog body-language.

They don't understand them and with time they leave in annoyance.

Adult cats are not social - except for Siamese. Yes, there are variances to that...but even with our socialized huge tabby, when I was a kid...once he got a housemate, a stray that got dropped off in the park across the street...he basically went on strike. The kitten was quite a personality; and wanted to be crawled up with the big one. But, nope!...NOTHING that kitten touched, the big cat would accept. Eventually they needed separate litter boxes.

Likewise my mother's greyhound, once she got it. Greyhounds love every creature - except for the rabbits they're trained to run after. So, here's this 60-pound racer, wanting to know all about what the cat is. And the cats...want nothing to do with the dog. For a year my mother tried to have a house divided; but it didn't work. The cats lived under the bed in one of several unused bedrooms - and started soiling the carpet in there, too. They only came out to eat after dark, when the dog was put in its crate.

Needless to say, that was unsustainable. But in that case, the greyhound wasn't looking to hunt or play like a lab would play - and the cats stayed far from any bed the dog used. But never was there peace, and for obvious reasons.

Cats and dogs have drastically different personalities; and even their communication is very different. Dogs can't purr - which is an important thing to a cat. A purr is to let other cats know he's open to socialization. You can come close, I'm not dangerous - now.

We can know this because injured cats or dying cats, will purr if with a human familiar. They're miserable, but they want company.

Likewise, a dog's tail-wag. One reason not to dock the tail on breeds where it has been done, is that it is a major social handicap to a dog not to be able to communicate mood with the tail.

What I saw from that video was mild annoyance on the dog's part.

Okay, I'm convinced.

Who am I gonna believe, my ongoing experiences, or a faceless Web Expert?

Have a nice day.

By the way...I drove those things.

The "conductor" just shuffles paper and does grunt work, anymore.

I only worked as a conductor...kinda...here on Rail Link, and only because here we took turns at the throttle.
