Former asst. FBI director: Arresting GOP Congress members may be needed to really tackle terrorism Empty Former asst. FBI director: Arresting GOP Congress members may be needed to really tackle terrorism

Former assistant FBI director Frank Figliuzzi suggested that in order to prevent a repeat of January 6, Republican members of Congress, as well as some Trump administration officials, may have to be arrested.

Following a familiar script on the left, where a person talks past an issue as if their opinion is fact, the settled science, in this case, that the protest at the U.S. Capitol was an insurrection by domestic terrorists, Figliuzzi suggested GOP lawmakers may be the “command-and-control element” at play here.

“Arresting low-level operatives is merely a speed bump, not a roadblock,” he opined on “MTP Daily” this week. “In order to really tackle terrorism, this time domestically, you have got to attack and dismantle the command-and-control element of a terrorist group. And unfortunately, and I know this is painful to hear, that may mean people sitting in Congress right now, people in and around the former president.”

“That’s how you do this,” Figliuzzi continued. “Otherwise recruitment, inciting, and cult-like leadership continues to recruit people to violence.”

It doesn’t require reading between the lines to see that he’s effectively calling Trump a cult figure actively engaged in the pursuit of political violence.

Figliuzzi, now an NBC News national security contributor, served as assistant director for FBI Counterintelligence under former President Obama.

He also represents yet another example of just how politicized the U.S. intelligence apparatus has become since Obama. In hindsight, it’s not surprising that the bureau started targeting former President Donald Trump before he was elected to office.

The former FBI official cited Director Christopher Wray to say that the Capitol riot was domestic terrorism — meanwhile, Black Lives Matter rioters burning down American cities are just people exercising their right to be heard.

The scary thing here is that Figliuzzi failed to name names or list any alleged crimes committed by a member of Congress or Trump’s inner circle, apparently suggesting that arrests should take place to serve as a deterrent.

One Republican lawmaker, freshman U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., was the target of a left-wing conspiracy theory that suggested she gave tours of the Capitol building to the rioters in an attempt to assist them in planning the breach.

The Washington Post reported in late January that U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., claimed he saw U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., give a “large” group a tour in the days leading up to Jan. 6., as if this was something nefarious.

“On Jan. 12, without naming anyone, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) said she saw her colleagues leading ‘reconnaissance’ tours a day ahead of the Capitol riots. Then, a day later, Rep. Sean Maloney (D-N.Y.), echoed Sherrill’s allegations in an interview with MSNBC where also without disclosing any names he said a GOP lawmaker had given protesters a tour of the Capitol on Jan. 5,” the newspaper further reported.

Of course, there is zero evidence to support the conspiracists’ claims that it was an effort to help protesters. In fact, Boebert’s family was in town for her swearing-in and she was accompanied by her young children, husband, mother, aunt, and uncle.

To get a feel for how much of a Kool-Aid drinker Figliuzzi is, he ripped Trump back in 2019 for ordering flags at half-mast until August 8 after the 2019 El Paso shooting.

The genius noted that August 8 — 8/8 — was “very significant in the neo-Nazi and white supremacist movement.”

“We have to understand the adversary and the threat we are dealing with, and if we don’t understand how they think we’ll never understand how to counter them,” he said during an appearance on MSNBC.

He went on to explain that “H” is the eighth letter in the alphabet and that 8/8 stands for “Heil Hitler” — this being the kind of zealotry on the left that resulted in more than one fan of retired NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. being called a neo-Nazi because his car number was 88.
