It took time for all that money-printing (which is what "inflation" literally is, an inflating of the money-supply) to catch up with prices in the stores.
All that Wall Street "asset-price rise"? That was simply the first result of all this gusher of Fresh Fiat currency. First, asset prices. Then, more slowly, meat and potatoes.
It accelerates when there is a confidence collapse in government. Which of course is where we are.
