Why Lib Cheney was a terrible surrogate for Kamala Harris
I didn't make this thread before the election because I'm not in the business of giving Democrats election advice, though most Democrats don't have the acumen to understand the arguments I'd make and would rather cope by saying voters are racist and sexist.
Anyway, people hate the GOP. Voters gave the GOP no sort of mandate, only Donald Trump, which is why the GOP maintained only a narrow House majority. Pennsylvania was the only state Republicans won a Senate race in that wasn't simply the result of Democrats being overextended (Jon Tester in Montana should have lost a long time ago but stayed alive due to an incompetent GOP), and Dave McCormick would have lost if Trump wasn't on the ballot. The reason Trump is hard to beat is because he distances himself from the GOP as the anti-war, anti-trade, and anti-immigration candidate. When Joe Biden was forced out of the race, Democrats could have tried to run away from Biden's foreign policy. They did not. They embraced Lib Cheney and conceded the anti-war vote to Donald Trump. Arab voters already ruled out voting for Biden, but since Democrats refused to disavow Lib Cheney, they could shut the door even harder now on voting Democrat.
Republican voters think Lib Cheney is a Democrat. She was overwhelmingly rejected by Republican voters in 2022. Donald Trump getting endorsements from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard was much more powerful than Lib Cheney endorsing Kamala Harris because Harris didn't do anything to earn an endorsement from Lib Cheney. She made no policy concessions. However, there were quotes of Lib Cheney calling Kamala Harris a radical and comparing her to Karl Marx. It's obvious Lib Cheney would have endorsed an open communist over Trump, which means her endorsement carried no weight. Lib Cheney and Adam Kinzinger come across as angry, unstable, and hateful.
Crossover endorsements in DC do not translate to crossover voters in real life. Kamala Harris had less appeal to Republicans than any Democratic candidate in history. That's a fact, and that's why she failed to flip any counties Trump won. George McGovern, who lost 49 states, actually had more crossover support than Harris. Exit polls were cooked up to show Democrats doing good, but they were wrong. They said Harris won 5% of Republicans. When you look at a map, it's a stretch to say she even won 1% of Republicans.
