I'm not going to assume that everyone knows who The Oracle is, so, if your curios, or time has lapsed your memory, (like it did mine), here goes..

The Delphic Oracle belonged to Apollo, and his priestess, called The Pythia, gave her oracles from inside Apollo’s temple.
The Oracle at Delphi [map] seems to have originally been held by Gaia (Aeschylus, Eumenides 1-. According to some accounts, Gaia had a snake or dragon, named the Python, that guarded her oracle. When Apollo came to take over the oracle, he first had to kill the dragon in order to take possession of it. Apollo’s priestess got her title, The Pythia, from the Python.
