Virginia School Board Votes to Restore Confederate Names To Schools

The Shenandoah County School Board in Virginia will restore the names of Confederate generals Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Turner Ashby to two local schools. The controversial reversal comes nearly four years after the names were changed.

Mountain View High School will revert to its former name, Stonewall Jackson High School, and Honey Run Elementary School will go back to being Ashby-Lee Elementary School.

The board approved the change by a 5-1 vote, with supporters saying the Confederate figures' names had been taken off the schools in 2020 in a "knee-jerk" reaction amid protests of George Floyd's murder by police. But opponents — including some current students — warned the board that the Confederate names would brand the schools and their county as a haven for backward, racist thinking.

Nigger Jim, Thomas Jacksons free negro ( Thomas taught the sundayschool at Nigger Jims church ) was the only black man on either side that lead an artillery battalion into battle and directed where the shots were emplaced upon union positions. this was at Port Royal VA.

In addition....Thomas Jackson was an orphan...he and his family NEVER had slaves. He was opposed to slavery. These people know nothing of these Jackson, Lee or any other Confederate generals etc,..they assume much and know nothing.

Thomas Jackson purchased Nigger Jim at a Winchester slave auction. i dont belive he had to pay $300, but i do know it was over $200. upon getting home, Thomas took off the leg irons and told Jim he could either run off, or stick around and help out for room and board. while Thomas taught college Jim stayed with Thomas' wife to help out at the farm. i believe Thomas did not meet up again with Jim until Thomas entered Romney.

I'm very close to Shenandoah County....all I have to do is drive down the road...and people in the valley DO NOT appreciate these northerners coming in here to take advantage of our lower tax rate from where they come from and our good nature and then vote as a block to turn these counties into dopplegangers of where they came from. We are taking back our School boards and they do not like it one bit. They are fighting tooth and nail to destroy what we all did to them last year.

after Thomas was killed, Jim stayed around and helped Sandy Pendleton. after Sandy was killed, Jim took to drinking and fell off the map.
